Alexandra Warren
Alexandra Warren was born in New York City and then spent her childhood in Greece, where her family was living at the time. The influence of growing up in Greece can be seen in her paintings, which incorporate gold/metal leaf reminiscent of Greek Byzantine icons. For many years she worked in oil on canvas, and then began using the materials used in icon painting. Alexandra began painting on the island of Paros and later received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI, USA. She also studied from 2014-2016 with Paul Martin and Alastair Gordon at Leith School of Art in Edinburgh.
Alexandra creates life-size figures on wooden panels. A conversation develops as she works with the various materials she uses; this slow dance with the materials allows figures to emerge and finally take their place in each painting.
In 2023 Alexandra received the President’s and Vice-President’s Award from the Society of Women Artists at their annual exhibition in the Mall Galleries in London. Her work is held in private collections in the UK, USA, Greece, Germany and Australia. Alexandra now lives and paints in the Scottish Borders.
