Christian Moore

Christian Moore is a self-taught contemporary artist whose work bridges the refined elegance of fashion illustration with the raw textures of the natural world. For over a decade, he worked in London as an illustrator for luxury brands and magazines such as Chanel and Tatler, developing a distinct "less is more" aesthetic rooted in style and precision. However, after relocating to rural Scotland to raise his family, Moore’s artistic focus shifted dramatically. Surrounded by rugged landscapes and immersed in a slower pace of life, he found new inspiration in nature’s stillness and imperfection—a stark contrast to the fast, polished world of fashion.

His current work reflects this transformation, often featuring solitary subjects set against vast, textured backgrounds. These compositions evoke a sense of calm and introspection, mirroring Moore’s own experience of leaving the city and embracing a more harmonious relationship with his environment. The space around each subject plays a crucial role, emphasizing simplicity, silence, and the quiet power of solitude. His pieces maintain the clean visual language of his earlier work, but now celebrate the organic beauty and imperfections found in the natural world.

Moore’s artistic process is as thoughtful as the work itself. Over five years, he developed a technique of cold casting bronze onto layered backgrounds of mineral paint, plaster, sand, and hessian. By aging the bronze to create a natural verdigris patina and deliberately cracking the surface before mounting it to wooden panels, he adds texture, depth, and character to each piece. Multiple layers of pigment are applied and removed to build a weathered, earthy tone, while shadow and texture are carefully painted to bring form and subtle movement. The result is artwork that feels timeless and deeply personal—blending craftsmanship, emotion, and a deep reverence for both material and meaning.
